Chizarira National Park
Well known for its isolated position in Northern Zimbabwe, Chizarira National Park is one of the larger National Parks of the country offering 2000 square kilometres of magnificent scenery.
The Mcheni and Lwizikululu rivers have cut almost sheer gorges into the escarpment, which falls some 600 metres to the Zambezi River floor, opening up expansive views towards Lake Kariba about 40 km to the north.
Chizarira is home to good sized herds of elephant and buffalo together with tsessebe, impala, waterbuck, reedbuck, kudu, sable and roan antelope followed by strong prides of lion and hyena packs. Nearly 400 bird species have been recorded.
Thanks to a number of springs there are lush pockets of vegetation hidden between long ridges of mountain acacias.
Known for its excellent game walking and the best way to enjoy the flora and fauna is to walk along the elephant tracks and mountain trails with a professional guide.
